Reintroducing Dragapella®!
LOS ANGELES “What do you get when you mix drag and a cappella?” That depends on who you ask! BroadwayWorld says “Heaven!” but America’s favorite beautyshop quartet says it’s more down to Earth: “DRAGAPELLA!”
After 30 years of groundbreaking LGBTQ musical entertainment with a dozen albums, multiple concert films, and touring extensively throughout North America and beyond, The Kinsey Sicks is now simply Dragapella! The group’s outrageous yet endearing characters, Angel, Trixie, Winnie, and Trampolina will continue to push musical, drag, and comedic boundaries with luscious four-part vocals, clever pop and showtune parodies, and genre-defying covers while bringing a new generation of audiences the best of the groups’ vast and timeless back catalogue of classics.
The most notable change comes with the group's refreshed contemporary logos and bold color schemes that blend whimsy and modernity, putting Dragapella! front and center to better focus on the crafts of drag and a cappella. Dragapella! partnered with Kansas City-based designer Brandon Shelton to forge the branding visuals, complete with new silhouette caricatures of the cast to be featured in merchandising and marketing. Additionally, the Dragapella! brand uses a vibrant palette of four color families (reds, yellows, teals, & violets) that not-so-subtly evokes a rainbow spectrum, but also reflects the groups’ four distinct and dynamic characters. “The refocus creates fresh possibilities for us as both a group and a genre, while still honoring the powerful legacy that came before,” according to Manabat, and the rebrand is, “rejuvenating and exciting!”
Spencer Brown (Trampolina) admits, “at least one of the original members lamented about not having called the group ‘Dragapella’ instead of ‘The Kinsey Sicks,’ given how it raised so many questions over the years and caused more confusion than the more-direct Dragapella!” Nathan Marken (Winnie) describes the change as simply, “Dragapella! much like our humor and message, leaves little to the imagination” while loveable beehived Trampolina is relieved to say, “I’m still Trampolina, so I’m thrilled they didn’t ask me to change MY name!”
Dragapella! is managed by The Kinsey Sicks, LLC whose partners include long-time performing members Jeff Manabat, Spencer Brown, and Nathan Marken – who play Trixie, Trampolina, and Winnie, respectively.
